The Haven's Gallery

Christmas dinner at Look-out Point in Ampang. It was also known as Little Genting. A little secluded hill at Ampang - Ulu Langat, overlooking the skylight of the KL city.
It was drizzling when we drove uphill. Misty and cool. We walked in to the first restaurant, but it was fully booked. The only seat available is at the bottom of the restaurant and going down the stairs mean walking down the stairs in the rain. We opt to go to the next door restaurant which they claim its the same. And I bet it so as they deliver the food between the two restaurant.
The restaurant we went to, The Haven Gallery. Looks a little classier and more fine dining type of environment. Large window open over looking the skylight. Window seats were booked and we sat a little far off the window but still had a glimpse of the lights of the KL city. We ordered our food, those waiters doesn't seem to know how to speak english. Never mind that, the menu had no drinks and when asked the waiter told us there is only fruit juices and cocktail. We ended up ordering 5 cups of sky juice as drinks. Then we started taking pictures of the KL sight. But when the KL City is not lighted up, there wasn't much to see.
Our sky juice was served in plastic cups! Is this how you eat at a restaurant? Looking at a nearby table where a group of friends celebrating Christmas. They had coke, 100plus, ice lemon tea and other drinks on their table!
Our food came. I shared the Christmas set dinner came with starter (Mushroom Soup OR Creamy Chicken Soup), Main Course (Fish & Chip, Grilled Chicken Chop OR Grilled Lamb Rack) and dessert (bread and butter pudding with vanilla ice-cream OR Tiramisu) with mum.The soup served wasn't piping hot. It seems it has sat at the counter for some time. The mildly hot mushroom soup has a hint of onion. Weird combination though. The main dish came. The grilled chicken looks ok, with mushroom sauce smells ordinary. When we sank our fork into the chicken... man, it seems we are cutting into the tree bark! Well, we still ate our dinner.
Well the waiter came with our dessert all of a sudden when all of us are still eating our meal. Is this how you serve? There wasn't a courtesy to ask if its alright to serve our dessert at that time. Well the dessert was there with the ice-cream. Half way with our main meal we got to switch to our dessert. This is so much ridiculous! Complaining about the food most of the meal time... To make it worst. This is no pudding. Its like eating bread toast sprinkled with cinnamon powder and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream
Christmas Special Set - RM39.90++
Mushroom Soup
Grilled Chicken Chop
Tender boneless chicken grilled and served with your choice of either black pepper or mushroom sauce.
Bread and Butter Pudding with Vanilla Ice cream
Classic tale of bread pudding with a pinch of cinnamin flavour. Must Try!
My sister ordered, Fish and Chip. The fish came and smells good. Two large piece of dory fish fillet served with chips and some salad on the side. The fish tasted good. Cooked well, juicy but a little fat on the hips. with some lemon juice and tartar sauce she wallop the dish.
Fish & Chips - RM22.90
Creamy Dory fish coated with our very own bread crumbs batter and fried to perfection and served with french fries and tartar sauce.
Dad and Ben ordered the Mango fried rice. It really does smell good. Served with some mango kerabu and keropok. Just like the way kampung serves it. The mango fried rice was actually fried rice with mango chutney. The mango kerabu is so sour! This does whet your appetite.
Mango Fried Rice - 15.90
Rice fried with our own marinated mango salsa
The only satisfaction was the great view of the KL city at dark with the cool breeze of the night after the rain. Since there is few other restaurant there. This is one restaurant I am not going to go back. Anyway, I am still thankful that Ben brought us there for dinner. Thanks mate for the dinner!
