Impromptu, Menara Hap Seng

Saturday, August 13, 2011
Set within the highly desirable and internationally acclaimed Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur at Menara Hap Seng, Impromptu was previously know as Dessert's Bar. Since the last two months, Impromptu at Menara Hap Seng is the first to adopt the new concept - cozy and comfortable environment, and serving solid food with a twist of fusion besides desserts. Being so Impromptu with their name, the food and menu is not at all impromptu. They serves hand-made pastas, gourmet sandwiches, salads, burgers, nasi lemak and smoothies.

Targeted to serve the office crowds in and around Menara Hap Seng mainly, their operating hours are from 10am to 9pm. All the pastas served at the cafe are freshly made daily from a range of pastas; plain, charcoal and herb into either spaghetti or fettuccine. Each day, two range is selected to be served, creating a. Most of the foods are made from fresh ingredients daily.

While we waited for the chef to prepare the food especially for us, we had our drinks to kick off the morning.
Cappucino, Latte and Mocha.

Drinks:
Cappucino - RM7.80, Latte - RM7.80, Mocha - RM8.80

Lunch is served! (^.^)

Curried Soft Shell Crab - RM17.90
Served with creamy sauce.

The healthier choice of pastas, charcoal spaghetti served with a rich curried cream sauce and tempura soft shell crab. With a twist of fusion, using curry paste and curry leaves was added to the creamy cabonara style sauce. Taste of the asian curry paste of mixed spices of onion, garlic and curry spices. The tempura soft shell crab adds a taste of crispiness to the creamy texture of the dish.

Tandoori Chicken - RM16.90
Served with curried tomato sauce.

This dish is of marinara sauce, a tomato based sauce infused with flavours of tomatoes, garlic, onion, herbs and a slight tartiness aftertaste of lemon juice. Tandoori chicken which usually includes taste of the masala spices and sourness of the citrus fruit, lemon. Another twist of fusion into the already traditional southern Italian cuisine with the asian flavours of the Tandoori chicken. The dish was kicked up by the lemon juice to the dish for the fresh and citron taste which complimented the Tandoori chicken.

Grilled Chicken Pesto - RM15.90
Served with home-made basil pesto.

Served on a colourful decorated plate, this choice of herbed pasta with the basil pesto sauce and grill chicken making this dish sounds like a healthy deal. The smell of herbs and the green herbal taste of basil pesto sauce, making this dish one of the strong tasting of herbs. It is an Olio Aglio style with the mixture of basil, rosemary, thyme and oregano with olive oil. The asian style grilled chicken made this dish another fusion delight.

As we thoght that the review had come to an end, the chefs had prepared their special sandwiches to tickle our taste buds further. All their sandwiches come with salad and sweet potato chips!!

Impromptu Lamb-urger - RM16.90
Juicy grilled lamb patty with mango chutney sauce & fresh garden leaves on a home-made bun.

Succulent lamb meat patty with home-made bun with lightly toasted with some garlic butter spread. When the dish was first brought out, it was so charming. All eyes was on it and capturing the picture of this dish with the smell of the lamb is drifting, it is so appealing that you would just want to grab a bite. This home-made patty with small bits of lamb fat to conceal the juiciness and taste of the lamb is not too greasy yet enticing. The sweet mango chutney that goes with the lamb patty enhances the meat just as much.

Crab Cake Burger - RM18.90
Crispy and juicy crab cake with chili mayonese sauce on a home-made bun.

As most of the dishes and ingredients are prepared fresh daily, this crab cake burger is no difference. Would usually have fish cake for burger, this crab cake is something new for us - me. Consisting two types of crab meat with other fresh ingredients, this crispy and yet pleasant seafood tastes of the crab. Topped with a chilli mayonnaise, the crab meat was not over power by it which we would see having tartar sauce or honey-mustard sauce.

All sandwiches are serves with the garden salad and sweet potato chips. This is not the ordinary chips or fries we had with burger or sandwiches . . . it is actually kerepek! And the salad you may think it was mayonnaise or some thousand island dressing by looking at the orangey colour. Definitely wrong . . . it is actually the Japanese Wafu dressing! Wafu dressing which literally means "Japanese-style dressing", it is a vinaigrette-type salad dressing based on soy sauce, popular in Japan.
