Chow Yang Vegetarian Restaurant, Bercham Perak
Friday, February 17, 2012
Every year there will be gathering in my dad's side where everyone... well almost everyone will try to make it back to their hometown for the celebration. As we usually only travel back to Ipoh on the second day of Chinese New Year. The gathering will usually be held then. This year we had our gathering dinner at a vegetarian restaurant in Bercham, Perak.
Vegetarian shops are now moving towards a modern twist. Incorporating dishes served at normal restaurant to vegetarian dishes. Vegans are not missing much from the everyday stuff we are eating now.
2012 Chinese New Year Set
Yee Sang
Our vegetarian Yee Sang which comes in a variety of vegetables are no difference from the Yee Sang had elsewhere except for the fish slices. However, it may be healthier too as there are more vegetables in it; turnip, cabbage, carrots, ginger few other vegetables.
Pandan Chicken
egetarian chicken wrapped in pandan (screwpine) leaves. The aroma of the pandan leaves is appetizing. The chickens are well marinated and cooked in the wrapped leaves.
Mushroom with Vegetables
I like this dish the best. A variety of mushrooms cooked together with some vegetables. Oyster mushrooms, golden needle or enoki mushrooms and button mushrooms.
Blackbean Fried Fish
Another ‘modern’ vegetarian dish, whereby the ‘fish’ is processed to be fish which is some ingredient wrapped with seaweed as the skin of the fish. The sauce is made of black bean, chilies and ginger. More like the modern dish we had at any ordinary restaurant.
Lohan Vegetable
Lohan vegetables are a vegetarian dish of mixed vegetables. It is called "Lohan Tsai" as it is literally the “Buddhist” vegetables as it is ensemble for the Gods.
Sweeet and Sour Gluten
Gluten is a protein composite found in foods processed from wheat and related grain species or we call it as Mien-Gan. This modern twist to the normal dish which is usually cooked with bean curds is nice. The gluten are deep fried and served with sweet and sour sauce.
Oat Wheat Prawn
Fragrantly cooked oat and wheat with vegetarian prawns.
Dessert
Sea coconut dessert with ice.
