Banana Jam

It started with my cousin who brought back the Banana jam from Mauritius when he was there for his honeymoon. It was really weird looking at the small bottle of jam which he brought back then. But it tasted rather unique and quite nice actually. I started browsing for the recipe of making the jam shortly after that.

This is my first attempt on the recipe. It didn't really turn out as well as the writer mentioned hers to be. But not too bad on my first try - though a little too tough as it was too thick.

Coconut Jam aka Kaya

It was in a gathering and my friend told me how much she like my kaya which I had given her months ago. Then my other friend who is at the gathering was staring at me and says... you what? you cook?

Well I do admit I am not a good cook and I don't go around boasting about what I have cooked. Then she asked me why she wasn't given the Kaya. So I decided to make another batch since the Kaya at home is finished.

Chan Kee Restaurant, Sauk Perak

This is the second visit to Sauk. The first time was a year or so (here) when I was on the way back from Bentong, Thailand. This time around, it was the purpose of going to Ipoh in the first place. My cousin invited us to go to Sauk when she know that both my parents especially my dad loves fish.

This time there is so many of us, 3 kids and 8 adults. We had an all fish feast at the restaurant that day! We had 7 fish dishes and a stir-fry vegetable.

Wan Tan Mee, Buntong Perak

Not too far away from the Ayam Tauke into the residential area, there is this Wan Tan Mee stall which my aunt says that is also very famous in the area. This is the first time I’ve been to this stall for Wan Tan Mee and definitely this is the second round of dinner for all of us. Apparently the noodle are self made from the stall owner itself, therefore it is more QQ or chewy compare to the normal noodles we eat at the stall.

There are lots of people waiting to be served. You have to be patient and not too hungry when you are here for the wan tan mee as they cook bowl by bowl. And please do not waste their green chilies. There are is a poster reminding patrons not to waste the green chilies and to take what you eat.

Restoran Ayam Tauke, Buntong Perak

We had been to this place a few times and finally I remember to take my camera with me when I went for dinner this time around. It was located in Buntong, a not so small shelter of a shop lot in Buntong, opposite a school which I forgotten the name.

According to my aunt, the chicken are apparently more ‘chicken’ taste to it rather than the bland taste you have when you have steam chicken and it goes nicely with the chili sauce and the mince ginger. You can either have rice or the Ipoh famous hor fun which is smooth and semi-translucent flat noodle. We of course ordered the white chicken and a few other dishes to go with our meal.

Kam Ling Restaurant, Kampar Perak

We were on our way to Ipoh for visitation during the long weekend. I think end of November or beginning of December with my parents and aunt – our eating spree. I know this had been an outdated post, therefore my sincere apology.

Kampar is a small old town on the way to Ipoh. My dad used to study around the town in his younger day. It had been in the recent years that my dad had wanted to have lunch at Kam Ling whenever we had the chance to go Ipoh, be it for visitation or for occasion. Kam Ling is the largest restaurant in that small town, by the main road. You wouldn’t miss it. One of the pioneer businesses in the town, it had been the envy of small boy to dine in many years back. Yes, I am talking about my dad!

Celebration at Fisherman's Wharf, Taman Desa

My sista is another year older! Its time to call for a celebration!!!

It was a weekday to best place to have dinner and not having to travel too far and getting through heavy traffic again . . .  Fisherman's Wharf came to mind and the food is good too.

Kee Hong Restaurant, Kapar

Dad eagerly told us that we are going to taste some shark meat over the long weekend. Don’t get me wrong, I am not avid fan of shark fin myself. But in this matter of shark eating, why waste the fish when it is dead? We drove all the way to Kapar, a small town in Klang.

O'Briens, 1 Utama

O’Briens Irish Sandwich CafĂ© had a 50% promotion on their Signature Classic Tripledecker Sandwich at Groupon Malaysia for RM7.60 instead of RM15.30 not too long ago.

Jombali, Wangsa Maju

Located inside of Carrefour Wangsa Maju is Jombali, a halal family restaurant which serves Malaysian food. They serve a wide variety of food besides Malaysian food of Malay, Chinese and Indians; there is also the Western and Nyonya cuisine. Cozy with its warm lighting and wood furnishing just like how Balinese would do. There are even cushions on the benches to make you more comfy.

We started off by ordering dishes from their new menu.

Ka Fei Dian, KL Festival City

It was after the Jombali’s review and it was the weekend too, when we decided to check out the new mall – KL Festival City. At first I did thought it was a festival held at some place and after some discussion and searching, only that I knew it was actually a new mall nearby Setapak.

We ended up having our tea break at Ka Fei Dian when it started to pour heavily outside after which we wanted to leave. The half price tea break took out attention. But the banner did give my partner in crime a misunderstood though when she thought it was entirely half price instead of just the bread. The cozy bricked and old time design of wooden stools and table did bring back the warmth. The aromatic smell of the brewing coffee is inviting.

Onde Onde, Desa Parkcity

Onde Onde . . . it is a rather strange name for a restaurant. It reminds me of the soft chewy kuih filled with sweet gula Melaka when it was bitten into it – sort of like the Malay siao long bao. Packing up and leaving the office as punctual as we are hoping that we could to get to Desa ParkCity on time. Braving the traffic congestion from work, we were late for our appointment of which we took 40 minutes.

Before we enter the restaurant of for our dinner, we took a quick snap of the signage at the entrance.

The interior of the restaurant brought back the nostalgic feel of the Nyonya Restaurant. With its antique china on the wall, the stone table and the colourful decorated stool it does brought the feeling of being transported back to the past where you can enjoy a good nice cup of coffee with some friends while chatting after a good long day at work.
